Flat and compact body with a willow leaf blade, which is the best feature of this, is connected to the body by a wire that is sticking out of its body, and an assist hook is also set right above the blade. This is the totally new shape offshore jig which doesn’t belong to slow type, long type nor fishing gear type such as VOLT. The blade which is the best feature of DROP. The effects of light and wave motion that the blade brings have been applied to various kind of lures for years since these effects are phenomena. But, we’ve never seen such a jig with the blade at offshore jigging. I assume the following is the 3 main reasons. The body itself starts rotating as the blade rotates. It is hard to have both blade and hooking performances at the same time. It’s hard to keep better resistance while reeling in, staying one place and trouble less. It is very easy to tune up the blades of ordinary jigs like the long type or slow type which you just simply put a swivel and a blade onto the rear eye of the jig. If you are the person who likes to tune or create stuff, you might have already tried this and slammed into the wall no.1. The lures that are designed to keep balance towards gravity direction set under its belly to be used for casting are no problems but the ordinary jigs will start rotating so fast since blades’ rotatory inertia affects its body at the scene of vertical jigging. Even you accept the rotation, you will encounter to the wall no.2. The number of fish attacking the blades will increase if you tune up to the blade that has great fish attraction, however it is difficult to set a hook around the blade to get the effective hooking as we’ll fall into the dilemma when we set a hook close to a blade then the blade stop rotating and when we set a hook to something like a front eye far from the blade then you’ll get hardly any hooking. Ok, let’s close our eyes to problem no.1 and no.2 but we still will encounter to problem no.3 such as increasing the resistance while reeling in, line twisting, and tangled blade to a hook or a line and it leads to the result “ok, it’s better if we have no blades” in the end. I believe that’s the typical story of dealing with blades at the offshore jigging so far. But if we clear all of these walls, there must be whole new jigging world out there. Our development team had been focusing on making the original body and setting to adopt a blade into the jig. First, I’ll talk about the body that won’t rotate even it’s attached to a blade. After the testing, we’ve figured out the best stable body shape to prevent the rotation which is wide and flat, and it’s also compact so that it’s hard to be swept away at the same time. The difference of this originally designed body from any other ordinary jigs is very obvious. Next, I’ll talk about the setting of the parts like a blade and a hook. By connecting a blade with a wire keeping a little distance from the body that receives resistance of a water current, we can set a hook eye and an assist hook to position a hook-point right above the blade by utilizing of the clearance as well as we can have the higher performance of the blade rotation. By doing this, we get great performances on both blade and hooking which turns the “biting blades” into “certain hooking”. It comes to the blade connection, we’ve tested both swivels and clevis pins and we decided to use swivels because it delivers better rotation, lighter resistance while reeling in and the better fall speed. You can change the blades freely since we used a split ring to connect them. Using this is pretty simple. You just drop and reel in which is common to MAKI JIG series. You don’t need any difficult rod actions, you can catch various fish by changing the retrieving speeds depends on what type of fish you are aiming for. You can appeal to fish for a long time within the hit range by adjusting the retrieving speeds and the fall even while you’re fishing from a floating boat. Go with medium to fast retrieve when you are aiming for blueback. The speed you are simply withdrawing your jig is also effective, we caught blueback so many times with the speed while we were just pulling the jigs out. I think the high hitting rate while withdrawing is worth mentioning. Go with slow retrieve when you are aiming for rockfish. Repeating of retrieves and drops close to the bottom (around 5-10m to bottom) like slow jigging is very effective to catch. The fish that hardly reacts to big jigs will easily react to this blade, you’ll even get surprising fishing results sometime. Especially it works the best when the small bait fish are preyed on.
