Osaka 2025: a first look at the new Megabass products

For artificial lure fishing enthusiasts like us, in all its forms, with a soft spot for the innovation of Japanese brands, the beginning of the year is one of the most anticipated times: fishing show season!

As if it were a tradition, for several years now the Plus Fishing team has been attending the Fishing Show organized in Osaka, perhaps the most important in all of Japan.

The almost surreal atmosphere that you breathe is indescribable, enthusiasts and experts in the sector gathered to share their greatest passion. Practical demonstrations, real debates or seminars in which professionals, even from different brands, come together with the sole aim of being able to share experiences and information that help those who are beginners to learn and become passionate about this sport, while helping to perfect techniques and approaches for those who have been fishing for many years.

Obviously, the novelties proposed and presented are the main attraction of the fair, the perfect opportunity to touch, test and study the products that will soon arrive on the European and Italian market.

During those days, we were also guests of Megabass, which, in our opinion, has truly raised the bar for 2025 and reaffirmed its global importance as a producer of sport fishing equipment. The genius of Yuki Ito has blossomed, presenting masterpieces of construction but especially of design, and the collaboration with anglers of the caliber of Kimura Kenta has given birth to lures that will allow many anglers to make important catches.

These are small previews and features of some of the new products presented that impressed us the most, in terms of effectiveness in the European market.

Megabass new Destroyer Evoluzion

Let's rewind a quarter of a century. The rods that boldly pioneered the 21st-century bass fishing scene are etched in the minds of experts who have long been immersed in that world.

Their name is Destroyer Evoluzion.

At that time, based on the blanks of Megabass' flagship rod, Destroyer, ITO Engineering succeeded in developing a unique composite shaft by implanting titanium fibers into the carbon graphite layer of the original Destroyer. This opened the door to another world of rod engineering.

Twenty-five years after its debut, ITO Engineering has developed a new titanium blank that enables the perfect execution of the diverse techniques and approaches characteristic of bass fishing, once again revolutionizing the concept of the fishing rod.

Super low resin, high elasticity carbon graphite MX40 is densely synthesized with ultra-fine titanium fibers made of shape memory “super-titanium”, creating a NEW titanium composite shaft. It has achieved unprecedentedly high tensile breaking strength, allowing it to bend 17% more than before, exhibiting high rigidity and tenacious resilience and, also, exhibits high transmission of vibration and improved sensitivity.

Ito's long-developed HTI (Human Tackle Interface) has yielded the latest ergonomic components, including the NEW Slant Bridge (PAT.P) and Head Locking System (PAT.), meticulously shaped using multidimensional structural theory to achieve unique ergonomics. These were created to “comfortably catch monsters" in all angling action scenes. The craftsman's healthy madness has forged a modern demon blade.

The New Evoluzion will fully execute bass games.

Magdraft

Magdraft freestyle: Its proven catching ability is the same as the original Magdraft, which continues to dominate tournaments in the United States. It's a reliable lure that allows you to cast into areas with heavy vegetation and obstacles without getting snagged, thanks to its 'freestyle' body that can be rigged with weighted hooks, jig heads, and other setups.
Magdraft head: Jighead developed and dedicated primarily for the Magdraft Freestyle, it allows you to make the most of the action and swimming of the softbait both with mid-water retrieves and those in close contact with the bottom.

Dark sleeper 4.5”

This lure, which needs no introduction, globally appreciated and imitated, is further enhanced with a new 4.5" size. In addition to offering more selection when targeting bass, it also appeals to anglers fishing for marble trout and hucho, thanks to the 3/4oz., 1oz. and 1 1/4oz. weights.

Yuki Ito x Kimura Kenta

From the experience gained by Kimura Kenta during his participation in numerous tournaments in America and Japan, where a lure must be not only versatile for rigs and approaches but also widely adaptable to various fields, combined with the endless research and development of the best hydrodynamic solutions carried out by Yuki Ito and ITO Engineering, this collaborative project was born. It has led and will surely lead to the production of revolutionary Megabass lures. For 2025, the Yagot and the Slap Hog have been presented.

Yagot: Resembles a dragonfly larva. Its unique body shape, created in collaboration with Yuki Ito, offers exceptional casting ability and a perfect swimming posture, generating delicate and realistic leg vibrations on the fall
Slap Hog: This Craw bait is the result of Kimura Kenta's competition experience and Yuki Ito's engineering innovation. A soft bait with claws that create highly enticing movements, whether retrieved by hopping along the bottom as a jig trailer, mid-water retrieves, or with swimming jigs or chatterbaits, a recent approach that's also gaining popularity in Italian waters.

Kalegou MD 156F

The KAGELOU MD 156F is highly effective in situations where forage fish, such as mullet, are preyed upon in shallow or surface areas. Its voluminous body displaces a lot of water and attracts predators from a great distance. The special lip allows it to reach a maximum depth of 0.8 meters. The stability during retrieval has been improved, completely preventing the lure from jumping out of the water in waves, wind, or currents, making it suitable for challenging environments like rocky shores.

These short previews only scratch the surface of what's coming soon. As we've already written, Megabass has really outdone itself for 2025, but the other companies we're proud and honored to work with have also unveiled some very exciting products that we've been anticipating, having had insights into the developing prototypes.
